Full Moon Release with the Emperor

Updated: Jan 15

Happy Full Moon in Cancer, dear Hearts! This is our first full moon of 2020 and in celebration, we are bringing one of our favorite divination tools to the blog: Tarot!

Before we jump in, a quick note on Tarot. The deck consists of 78 cards, each one a distinct archetype onto which we can reflect our perspective and experience. Tarot is not a fortune-telling tool. I think of Tarot as a mirror into which we can gaze and see what otherwise might be hidden unconscious..

Tarot and numerology cross paths such that each calendar year is associated with a particular card. When we look at the numerology of this 2020 we get 2+0+2+0=4.

4 points us to the card most commonly known as the Emperor.

So here are. 2020. Year of the Emperor.

Emperor energy is about organization, structure, consistency, logic. The emperor takes control and makes. It. Happen. The emperor is an activator. This card points to what it takes to build not just a home, not just a city, but an empire. At its best, Emperor points to the growth of larger systems such that something greater than the individual can rise. At its worst Emperor energy looks like greed, unearned and corrupted power, and oppression.

This card shows up as a reminder to reflect on ones relationship with authority and power. For me, this contemplation is not an easeful one. When I look around our globe through the lens of authority and power I feel serious resistance. More than that I feel anger, grief, and all too often, powerless.

However, when I access the best side of the Emperor card I know that I am anything but powerless. I know that I am in fact of incredible, unearned privilege. And, while each of us walks distinct paths with different challenges and injustices, I believe that each one of us holds an incredible capacity to impact our world.

The Emperor archetypes stands to remind us that every single moment, every single action, thought, and intention holds power. Incredible, cosmic, magic power. And we are the one who holds the ultimate power over where we spend our power.

So on this full moon, I invite you into a practice of release. I invite you to release any notion that your contributions do not matter. I invite you to release, wherever you are able, that you are powerless or incapable.

Take a moment today to sit in meditation and offer anything that blocks your personal sense of Emperor energy to the moon. In the coming weeks as you look up and see the moon waning reflect on what you have released. Then name and feel what you are pouring into those spaces newly. See with clarity your place in the whole of things.

With love,
